Skills

Install the newt/ui skill and your coding agent knows the registry, the token system and the review checklist without being told.

A skill is a folder of instructions an agent loads when it recognises the task. The newt/ui one teaches the things a model otherwise guesses at: which components exist, that every value comes from a token, what not to reimplement, and what the copy may say.

Five prompts it makes work:

  • “Build a channel view with a member list and a composer.”
  • “Why does this look wrong in light mode?”
  • “Add presence indicators to this dashboard.”
  • “Review this diff against the newt/ui rules.”
  • “What should I use instead of writing my own message row?”

Install

npx skills add wolfstar-project/newt-ui

That installs it for whichever agents it finds. -a claude-code (or cursor, codex, …) picks one.

What is included

Project context. The skill runs newtui info --json before anything else, so the agent starts from your framework, your Tailwind major, your aliases and the components you already have — not from a guess at your file tree.

The CLI. Every command and flag, and which of them are destructive enough to ask about first.

Theming. Override a token rather than editing a component; the light palette works by overriding the same names, which is why a literal breaks it.

The MCP server. When the server is configured, the skill prefers its tools over shelling out, and says which tool answers which question.

Four rules, with incorrect and correct pairs: tokens, composition, accessibility, and the trademark terms that apply to every example.

How it works

The skill is markdown. SKILL.md carries the principles and the dynamic context line; the rest are reference files it points at, so a long rule costs nothing until it is relevant.

It ends where it should: before reporting work finished, the agent re-runs newtui info --json to confirm the components it claimed to use are actually installed, and walks the same checklist the MCP server returns from get_audit_checklist.

Without the skill

Using with AI has the same rules as a prompt you can paste into a system message, for an agent with no skill support.
